GILES, William L., 68, U.S. Coast Guard, CAPT (Ret.)

of Louisville passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2013 with loved ones by his side.

He was born September 7, 1944 in Pasadena, CA, the son of the late William James Giles and Dorothy Lillian Finch Giles.
William received his Undergraduate degree in Journalism from San Diego State College, and a Masters degree in Public Administration from George Washington University while in the U.S. Coast Guard where he made a career. After devoting over 24 years of service to the U.S. Guard where he retired as a Captain, he went on to work as a Grants Administrator for Virginia Tech, University of Georgia, and Kansas State University.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved to travel with his wife in their RV and see the beauty of the country and all it had to offer.

William is preceded in death by his two half brothers, James and Norval Giles and his beloved canine companions, Daisy and Pookie.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janice (Blankenship) Giles; children, Robin L. Woodward (Matthew), Andrew G. Giles, and Alexander M. Giles (Danielle); two grandchildren, Ainsley and Timothy; sister, Mary I. Heinen (Denny); special friend and neighbor, Stephen Straub, and numerous nieces, nephews, and granddogs.

Cremation was chosen. A celebration of life will be later in the spring. Ratterman's, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville was entrusted with arrangements.
