Thomas Francis Byrne finished his earthly race on February 1, 2013 surrounded by
his family, two dear friends and his beloved pets. Born June 20th, 1930 in the
Bronx , New York, he lived a full and colorful life. As a young man he worked at
Oertel's Brewery where he met and became friends with Gilbert and Cora Hardin.
That friendship has lasted 62 years and they are more than friends, they're
family. He was an Army veteran and served his country during the Korean War. He
served his community for thirty years as a member of the Jefferson County Police
Department where he was a mentor to many and a source of strength, calmness, and
reason in the midst of chaos. He treated people with dignity and lived his faith
in the way he lived his life. He loved his neighborhood, gardening, working with
his hands, and all of God's creatures from the smallest mouse to the deer that
regularly feed in our yard. The world is a poorer place in his absence and
heaven is richer because God has called him home.
He is loved and cherished by his wife Colleen, his daughter Priscilla Davis (Jim
Wilson), his granddaughter Bridget Davern ( Bill), two great granddaughters Emma
and Cecelia Davern and three very special friends Margaret Dunavan, Fran Etoch,
and Jane Sonntag who helped care for him in his final days.
He is survived by Marianne Robbins and two grandsons and two granddaughters.
A celebration of his life will be at Ratterman's 12900 Shelbyville Rd. East
Louisville with visitation on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The funeral will also be held at Ratterman's East at 11 AM on February 5th with
visitation from 9:00am to service time. An FOP service will be held on Monday
evening at 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memoriums to Golden Retriever Rescue
and Adoption of Needy Dogs or the WHAS Crusade for Children.
